connect four records is the new sub-label of tic tac toe records. weve established it to focus on all the brilliant sounds in the deep minimal house neighbourhood – and after 2 very successful releases, were now ready to give you the fabulous 3rd – this time from turkish newcomer murat Özer. murat was born in istanbul/turkey in 1977 and fell in love with music at such an early age that hes forgotten when. he started out his active musician-ship in the 90s as a bassist at a junior high rock band then went on as a guitarist and finally as a drummer in various jazz & rock bands. however, since his childhood, bands like >depeche mode<, >tears for fears<, >spandau ballet<, >human league< and such have always drawn his attention towards electronic music

l delay is all about the drama—but at the same time, its skipping hi-hats and ringing bells suggest a carefree spirit and a supreme lightness of touch. talk about a duality: a cloak of reverb sucks the track perennially towards the dark side, but from the gleeful syncopations to the cheekily sampled live instruments, everything else opens up to the light like a morning yoga position. there s no funny business here, just tight rhythms and emphatic phrases that command bodies to move. its a monster of a track, but it must be of the loch ness variety, because youll never see it coming. on the flip, >frost< —haunted by the same high, lonesome string note as >l delay<— might be even more energetic, if that s possible. the high end has been smoothed down, and some of the roughhewn chicago edge of its companion tune sanded smooth, but its crazily syncopated standup bass line and distant, answering keyboards is all muscle, tensed and ready to explode. spacious drum tracks clear the floor for flashes of tambourine and handclaps so dry you can taste the salt on em. again, no nonsense is the name of the game: just raw, unadulterated funk with an ear for playful rhythms and limber moves

the music is playful, ambitious, simple, complex, fun and melancholic and not at least. it is extremely animalistic. they have an album >animals< ready to drop in 2007. elephant s parade was played completely live with drum machines, synths and analogue sequencers. the duo like to record this way (compared to stuck infront of the computer) as they get more free in creating a specific and spontaneous feeling. here one might imagine a big gang of crazy elephants getting lost on a psychedelic parade. in the middle of the track things are getting a bit weird, perhaps too much amarulla fruit, which gives the second part its childish and naïve playfulness. on the flipside bird song has a dirty, noisy, trippy vibe with a little touch of basic channel sound. shake a tail feather !! played by anja schneider, karotte, tobi neumann, troy pierce, woody
